The Perfect Project

Over a 10 year period Project Agency has run hundreds of courses, briefings and workshops based on a highly practical project management framework. We estimate that some 6,500 plus people have benefited from this training.

This 2 day event, The Perfect Project, will focus on helping participants deliver those key organisational projects. Details are given below.

Designed for:

This two day event will benefit any person engaged in a project. It is also relevant to project managers, project team members, staff who will soon be working on a project, those with little project experience and those who want a "refresher" .Project sponsors may also benefit from attending this event though we suggest that a more specific programme may be more appropriate to their needs.

What you will learn:

You will learn to use a number of project management tools and techniques including:

  • how to use a standardised project management framework

  • how to define, plan and control projects

  • the roles you and others play in effective project delivery

  • managing and reducing risks in all projects

  • using tools with application beyond formal projects

Set up- definition:

  • identifying relevant roles in Project Management process

  • stakeholder analysis

  • identifying the tensions [quality, cost or time]

Delivery Planning:

  • work breakdown structure

  • estimating time and cost

  • Gantt and milestone charts

  • critical path analysis

  • risk analysis

Delivery:

  • reporting, how?

  • dealing with variations

  • loose v tight control – how will the project be controlled?

Close down and review:

  • project review - how did we do?

  • did we achieve our objective and meet our success criteria?

  • what did we learn and what lessons can be shared with others in the organisation

  • formally closing the project

Methods

This will be a highly practical training programme and will involve:

  • pre course activity to be brought to the event

  • brief presentations from the tutor

  • application of a practical project management methodology

  • work on a case study [developed in house or developed by Project Agency]

  • discussions on current project management issues - what works and what does not

  • individual action planning

  • work to do in the evening between sessions

Developing Effective Business Cases - a 1 day workshop

More and more people are being asked to produce a business case and obtain approval of the business case before it actually starts.

Project Agency research has found there has been little formal training of staff in this important area. The attached one day programme will benefit many staff in a number of different ways:

  • providing them with a structure to follow to develop their own business case

  • providing extra guidance for staff through tutorials during the workshop

  • identifying project benefits and using these benefits to help manage the overall project management process

  • using a number of statistical tools to support the business case including investment appraisal, discounted cash flow and cost benefit analysis
